Toby Mendel’s Visit to BNU

A special session on “Right to Information and its Practical Benefits” was organised by School of Media and Mass Communication at Beaconhouse National University on December 4, 2017.
Executive Director of Centre for Law and Democracy Canada, Mr Toby Mendel, Deputy Director Punjab Information Commission Mr Ahmed Naeem Malik, Mr Iftikhar Khan from GIZ and Representative of Civil Society Ms Monus Kayenat from Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives, shared their valuable views regarding Punjab Transparency and Right to Information (RTI) Act especially with the students of Mass Communication.
The Keynote Speaker, Mr Mendel, while emphasizing RTI, said the right to information is a fundamental Human Right and the pillar of democracy which cannot be snatched away from them at any cost. He further reiterated that it is mandatory to understand the hurdles in implementation of RTI to address them effectively and efficiently. “Every country has its own information laws but this must never be used as an excuse to deny the public from their basic right of information”, he added.
Dr Wajiha Rizvi, Associate Professor School of Media and Mass Communication thanked the guests and organisers for arranging such an informative session. Dr Taimur Ul Hassan presented the souvenir shields to the guests. Mr Zaeem Yaqub, Executive Director Students Affairs and External Relations BNU, was also present at the occasion.
