| The Triangle |
The Beaconhouse School System views education
as a partnership between a parent, teacher and child.
The well-known parent, teacher and child triangle illustrates
this partnership perfectly. Partnerships require co-operation
and dedication in order to thrive and succeed.
Beaconhouse looks forward to a fruitful and successful
partnership with you and your child. |

| The Parent |
A child learns skills and attitudes from
his/her parents, starting from the very first day. This
continues even after a child enters school. Parents
are their child's first and most influential teachers!
A home is a child's first and most important school.
In fact, only 14% of a week is spent in school and 86%
is spent under home influence. It is important therefore
to understand that learning does not begin when a child
walks through the classroom door, learning begins and
continues at home.
Parents are consequently faced with the responsibility
of providing their child with the best educational opportunities
possible. The following pages are to assist parents
in preparing their child for school. |

| The Importance of Conversation |
| Talk to your child as much as possible
and listen to what he/she has to say to you. The more
you converse with your child, the more thoughtful he/she
will become. Your child may have difficulty pronouncing
some words, but he/she will learn if you continue to
speak clearly. Answer your child's questions as simply,
clearly, carefully and truthfully as possible. |

| The Influence of Television |
| Try to think of every program you watch
together as an opportunity to spend some quality time
with your child. Your child will benefit greatly if
you discuss the program and clarify confusions as and
when they arise. |
