Parents Role: The Triangle
The BSS views education as a partnership between a parent, teacher and child.

Pre-Nursery / Nursery
The BSS understands how important the very first day at school is for you and your child.

The Curriculum Framework
At the Beaconhouse School System, the Early Years
Curricula are based upon active forms of learning, on enquiry, on discovery, and on first hand experiences.

Homework
Parents play an important role in the learning process. Learning in the Early Years is experiential and parents are requested to provide similar valuable learning experiences at home. Homework in the Early Years is set according to the age and ability of the student. Parents are requested to support/supervise and encourage their child in completing the homework set by the school.

Assessment
Assessment provides teachers with important information about the student's learning and helps teachers plan appropriate experiences for their young students. Teachers document students growing competencies and help parents understand their child's development.

Assessment in the Early Years involves:

observation of the student

completion of standardized worksheets

samples of student work compiled to form individual portfolios of work

Formal Parent Teacher Meetings
These are held thrice a year. Parents are informed of the work to be covered during the year and how they can support their child.

Reports
A school year consists of two terms and reports are issued at the end of each term. These inform parents of their child's achievements as well as suggest how parents can help their child.

Rewards
Certificates, smiling faces, stars and stickers are rewarded to the students for good behavior, good manners and special achievements. These rewards are used as incentives and are awarded continuously throughout the year.

Notification of Events and Newsletters
Important school information is always notified in writing, usually through circulars and newsletters, both of which are sent to parents regularly.

Absences
Parents are requested to inform the school of all absences in writing.

Security
A student I.D card is issued to the parents at the time of admission. Parents are requested to ensure that they or their representative present the I.D card to the teacher on duty before taking their child home.

School Uniform
The wearing of a school uniform helps to foster a sense of pride and belonging in the students. Parents are requested to ensure that all clothing is clearly labeled with the student's name, ensuring that all lost items can be found and returned quickly.

Medication
Apart from specific cases, such as asthma and diabetes, no medication will be given to students or will be self-administered by the students. If a student requires any other kind of medication during normal school times then arrangements should be made for the medication to be brought to school and administered by a parent or parent's representative.

Hygiene
We take great pride in encouraging healthy hygiene habits from early age and students are encouraged to take care of simple things such as keeping their hair tidy, washing their hands before eating and keeping their face clean.

Emergencies
If a student should become ill or meet with an accident during school hours, the school office will contact the parent.

Road Safety
Parents are requested to help provide a safe and orderly environment outside the school by driving slowly while in the vicinity of the school.

Pastoral Care
All members of the staff share in the care of all the students. The class teacher has specific responsibility for the needs, well-being and happiness of the students in her class.
