The Curriculum Framework
At the Beaconhouse School System, the Early Years
Curricula are based upon active forms of learning, on enquiry, on discovery, and on first hand experiences.

Language and Literacy
The Beaconhouse School System educates its students through a process of English language immersion. The literature rich curricula support and encourage second language acquisition. Students experience a variety of language and literacy activities.

Oracy Time is an activity during which students are encouraged to communicate their feelings, thoughts and ideas in a warm, accepting environment. Story Time is another activity in which students hear carefully selected stories which aim to develop language skills.

Mathematics
The BSS Early Years curricula lay the foundations of the subject in a practical way. Students are offered experiences which build their confidence and understanding, as well as provide enjoyment. The mathematical strands include number, shape, space and measures.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World
This area provides students with opportunities to explore, pose hypothesis, seek answers and draw conclusions through observation and investigation.

Creative Development
Art:
The activities involve the use of paint, color, pencils, crayons, printing material, play dough, clay and collage.
Music:
Music includes singing, playing instruments, listening to a variety of music and composing and presenting music.

Personal and Social Development
At BSS, we believe that students learn by observing and interacting with other people and the world around them. BSS aims to provide an environment in which the students develop social and moral values.

Physical Development
All students participate in physical education, including team games and athletics. Through these activities, students acquire an awareness of space and develop their own coordination skills. Students learn to work individually as well as part of a team, gaining physical well-being, mental stimulation and, most of all, enjoyment.
